“Brownson and Lincoln on the American Union” - Dr. Adam Seagrave

Continuing our academic retreat on Orestes Brownson’s The American Republic, Dr. Adam Seagrave compared Brownson’s conception of the American nation with that of Abraham Lincoln. While the two thinkers aligned on certain issues, especially the Union cause in the Civil War, they disagreed on the origins of the war as well as what the post-war American union should be.

If you’d like to attend an academic retreat with the Valor Institute, please see our calendar of events.

The Valor Institute for Studies in Person and Community exists to promote an adequate philosophical anthropology and capacious understanding of the human person flourishing in authentic community.
