Every school year, following the Health and Safety Code 36 from the Texas Health and Human Services Department, we must provide vision and hearing screenings to all new students along with students in Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades. Additionally, spinal screenings are required for female students in 5th and 7th grades as well as male students in 8th grade.
These screenings aim to determine if a further medical evaluation is necessary for your child. All screenings have a pass/fail criterion, and you will be notified if additional assessment is needed for your child. If you DO NOT want your child’s hearing, vision, or spinal screening to be conducted at school, please contact us via email (nurse.northaustin@valoreducation.org), and you will be required to provide a copy of your child’s current evaluation from a medical provider.
